Activity Monitoring Q & A's
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What happens if someone else uses the workstation being monitored?
A.Monitoring takes place on a per user basis so in situations where a PC is shared or used by others the activity is tracked individually through their login
Q. Can I track an individual if he or she is using different workstations?
A. Yes, provided the software is installed on both machines, the data is consolidated
Q. Can it track the activity of someone working from home/remotely?
A. The solution will collect and store data on remote workers' PCs and laptops and will upload the information at a point when it can communicate with the servers
Q. Legally, do I need to inform my staff that their activities are being recorded?
A.Any business should take the time to understand the legalities of monitoring staff but they should be aware of the following: The Data Protection Act 1998; The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000; The Human Rights Act 1998.
Contracts of employment, computer usage policies and employee handbooks should, where there is scope to do so, detail the sorts of monitoring that will take place, the reasons why and the way in which the business handles any misuse
